David and Kate,
My husband is deployed in Iraq, he commands an Assault Helicopter Battalion made up of 430 soldiers. Our children and I miss him greatly but are very supportive and proud of him. I also serve as his Family Readiness Group leader of the six companies within his battalion, we have a dozen FRG company level leaders.
One of my FRG leaders showed me the book you have written, What I Love About You, because she thought I would like it. My husband and I love it! In fact, my husband and the deployed chaplain introduced it to the whole battalion, I introduced it to my leaders and all the family members, and we both encouraged all of the soldiers to pursue using this book as a means of sharing love with their spouse, significant other, during the challenge of the deployment.
For ourselves, my husband and I made up a pen pal system, it goes like this:
1. The person who has the book chooses 3 pages, only one of those pages can be a checkmark page.
2. The date, time and place is recorded at the bottom of each page written on.
3. The book should be written in and sent to the other person within one week of receiving it (it takes anywhere from 4 days to 2 weeks to send mail back and forth from home to Balad, Iraq).
My husband asked me to let you know how the book has blessed us and that we have encouraged soldiers to use it during a time when marriages are greatly challenged.
Thank you for your indirect support of our AHB soldiers and their families.
